Roanoke, VA - The Hollins swim team hosted Bridgewater College on Friday night. It marked the first time that Hollins competed in the new year and it was Senior Night for a group of swimmers looking to finish out their collegiate career with a win in their final home meet.
Hollins fell behind their ODAC rivals early when the Eagles won the 200 Medley Relay. Senior Meg O'Brien (Chattanooga, TN) handled the distance events in her final home meet, bringing home a second and third place finish. O'Brien placed third in the 1000 Freestyle then later in the meet, Meg finished a split second out of first in the 500 Freestyle. The four year swimmer led for 19 of the 20 legs of the 500, touching the wall just .17 seconds behind Bridgewater's Sammie Arnold.
Hollins picked up first place points when Claire Webber (Blauvelt, NY) dominated the field in the 100 Freestyle. Webber led wire to wire, winning the event by three and a half seconds. Webber finished her individual events with a runner up finish in the 100 Breaststroke. Hayley Caulfeild-James (Willow Street, PA) and Bethany Huss (Durham, NC) each secured a second and third for Hollins. Caulfeild-James recorded second place points in the 200 Freestyle and third in the 100 Butterfly while Huss finished runner up in the 50 Freestyle and third in the 100 Backstroke.
Hollins will travel to their arch rival Sweet Briar College on January 20th. The last time that the two rivals competed against one another, Hollins bested the Vixens at the ODAC Relay Meet.
