Ashland, VA - As the October days begin to dwindle, Hollins entered the final eight days of her regular season with a trip to face Randolph-Macon College. The Yellow Jackets would take an early advantage, and despite a late first-half Hollins score, the home team would pick up the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory, 10-1.
Randolph-Macon would score three times in the game's first 10 minutes. The shell-shocked Hollins squad would see a duplication of the Yellow Jackets offensive outburst over the next 10 minutes as the green and gold found themselves down early, 6-0. The match would settle down as the two teams shared some opportunities but it was the home team that would once again find the back of the net. However, Hollins would get on the board with just over a minute left on the clock. Callie Marhenke would gather the ball after it got away from the Yellow Jacket keeper to cut the deficit to 7-1 at the break. After an exciting, high scoring first stanza, the second half would be rather pedestrian by comparison. The visitors would fail to register a second half shot as Randolph-Macon secured the ODAC win.
Marhenke scored the first goal of her collegiate career and has led or shared the shot lead for Hollins in her last two matches. Kendra Rich recorded 20 saves, her third straight 20+ save effort and fifth of the season.
Meghan Skevington scored twice to lead a Yellow Jacket team that saw nine different players find the back of the net. Casey Kent registered two of Macon's seven helpers and Christina Newman earned her eighth win of the season despite allowing one goal.
Hollins will have one more rehersal, a trip to Roanoke College on Wednesday, before her regular season finale against Sweet Briar next Saturday.
