Roanoke, VA - After a pair of grueling Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) matches over the past seven days, the Hollins soccer team welcomed Trinity Washington for a non-conference matchup. The Tigers brought a three game win streak into the action while Hollins was looking for her first home win of the season.

Neither team got much going early, as most of the action took place in the middle of the field. Audrey Tseumi took the ball at the top of the box and blasted a long shot over the keeper's head to start the scoring. Trailing 1-0, the home team quickly answered. Miranda Springston dribbled wide left and took it all the way down the field before delivering a perfect pass that Mallory Jengo deposited in the back of the net to knot the score at 1-1. The score would remain tied until the 30 minute mark when Angely Mercado got rolling. Mercado scored her first and second goals on the afternoon in a 1:43 stretch that allowed the Tigers to open up a lead. Another Trinity tally made it 4-1 at the break. Much of the second half was played in the Trinity zone, but Hollins couldn't cut into the lead. With less than 20 minutes to play, Hollins was awarded a penalty kick after a Tiger foul in the box. Jengo scored her second goal of the day and cut the Trinity advantage, 4-2. Meracdo then went back to work adding her third and fourth goals of the game to put it away for the visitors, 6-2.

Jengo scored her two goals on just three shots. In addition to Springston's assist, the sophomore got off five shots while Ciera Morris attempted a pair of shots, including a great scoring chance that was saved by Vanessa Ramirez. In net, Kendra Rich stopped five of the 11 shots she faced on goal.

Mercado registered a match high 10 shots with seven being on goal. Jessica Alonso handed out a pair of helpers with Tseumi adding an assist to her early tally.

Hollins will be back in conference action with a pair of road matches this coming week. After a trip to Shenandoah, the green and gold will travel to Guilford on Friday night.
