Roanoke, VA - The Hollins soccer team was back on campus after a two game road trip through Pennsylvania last weekend. Hollins played host to Gallaudet in their final non-conference matchup before the start of Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.
The game went back and forth with neither team gaining any ground for the open minutes of play. However, at the 5:43 mark, Brittany Mallach scored an unassisted goal when she dribbled through a pair of defenders to net the goal. Mallach would strike again, scoring a pair of goals about a minute and a half apart to give the Bison a 3-0 advantage. Hollins would answer quickly to cut into the lead. Miranda Springston sent a pass through the defense to an open Ciera Morris. Morris won a foot race with the keeper and promptly sent the ball into the back of the net. The match looked to remain 3-1 as the minutes started to wind down, but the Bison would score off a one touch pass to make it 4-1 at the break. Coming out of the half, Gallaudet seemed to have a little extra jump in their step as they would add four more tallies in the first 15 minutes of the second frame. With just over 15 left to play, Springston took a pass from first-year Shravani Chitineni and dribbled around a defender on the left side and scored her second goal in as many games. Hollins would not be able to get any closer and fell to the Bison, 9-2.
Morris took a team high seven shots, sending four on goal. Springston and Chitineni combined to register five shots and in goal, Kendra Rich recorded nine saves.
Mallach scored four goals and Danielle Wheeler added three scores on her 14 total shots. Sabina Shysh handed out a pair of assists and Silvya Levesque went the distance in net, making seven stops.
Hollins will have a week to prepare for the start of ODAC play. Bridgewater College will be the first conference test for Hollins when the Eagles come to Roanoke on Saturday afternoon for a 2:00pm start.
