Roanoke, VA - The Hollins University soccer team played their final Saturday home match of the season when they welcomed Randolph-Macon to town. Prior to the match, Hollins took a moment to honor her lone senior, Allie Tambornini, before taking on the Yellow Jackets.
Tambornini has played every minute of the 45 games in which she has started over the past three seasons and early in the match with Randolph-Macon, she and her defensive teammates were up to the task. Hollins turned away several scoring opportunities by the Yellow Jackets and the match remaind scoreless for the first 20 minutes of play. Gabby Nelson received a pass over the Hollins back line and found the back of the net to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage. Macon built onto the lead throughout a first half that saw the home team being out-shot, 23-1, and at the break it was the Yellow Jackets with a 6-0 lead. The second half was once again played primarily in the Hollins zone as Randolph-Macon picked up the, 9-0, Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win.
Nelson scored the game's first two goals, the second being set up by keeper Lindsay Zachman's punt over the entire Hollins defense. Seven Yellow Jackets added scores with Hannah Harris coming off the bench to hand out three assists.
The final regular season home match of the season will take place on Wednesday afternoon. Hollins will play host to Shenandoah University at 4:00pm on the 19th.
