Raleigh, NC- Saturday afternoon saw Hollins play their first road match of 2015. Hollins faced off with Agnes Scott on the opening day of the Meredith College Classic in Raleigh, NC.
Hollins came into the matchup with the Scotties looking to build some momentum for the start of the 2015 season. After to falling to Greensboro in their home opener, Hollins was hoping to get off to a quick start in their first road game. However, Agnes Scott jumped on the young Hollins squad early, netting the game's first goal just two minutes into the match. After giving up a quick goal, Hollins settled in and fought the Scotties possession for possession for much of the opening part of the game. Goalkeeper Audrey Haisley (Denver, CO) and her defensive teammates did a great job of keeping Hollins in the match as Haisley recorded nine first half saves. Agnes Scott finally wore dow their opponents and as the horn sound for the break, Hollins found themselves on the short end of a 6-0 score.
As the second half started, the Hollins offensive was once again help in check. The Scotties continued to control possession of the ball in the Hollins zone and despite their best efforts, the Hollins defense could not keep the Agnes Scott offense from increasing the lead. Late int he contest, Hollins had their best scoring chance of the afternoon, but Jhovanna Salmeron (Zebulon, NC) saw her shot stopped by the Scotties goalkeeper.
Haisley ended the day with her second consecutive double-digit save effort by stopping 14 Agnes Scott shots.
Caitlyn Croft led the Scotties with three goals. Zoey Perchaluk and Stephanie Hicks added a pair of goals each while Aina Startton handed out two assists. Two Agnes Scott goalkeepers split time in net while recording a shutout.
Hollins will be back in action tomorrow afternoon when they play Salem College at 2:15pm.
