Danville, VA - The Hollins lacrosse team returned to action after a short breather during their Spring Break when they traveled to Danville to face Averett University on Wednesday night, It marked the first of two consecutive matchups "under the lights" for a Hollins team that will play the remainder of her games on the road.

The Cougars wasted little time in welcoming their guests by netting the night's first score less than two minutes into the game. In a first half that would see Averett out-shot Hollins by more than 20 attempts, the Green and Gold would find themselves down at the half, 12-0. During the second 30 minutes of play, Averett would continue to control the ball near the Hollins net. Hollins would close the shot gap, 13-4, but couldn't find a way to crack the Cougars defense and were kept off the board throughout the evening. Averett connected on 30% of their free position shots while shutting out Hollins on both of their attempts. As the final horn sounded, Averett had defended their home turf with a 15-0 non-conference victory.

Keeper Delaney Waller recorded 14 saves while leading Hollins with five ground balls. Samantha Lehman added four ground balls while causing three turnovers.

Elizabeth Peasley led the Cougars with six goals and Alixis Roccia added four scores.

Hollins will travel to Randolph for a 7:00pm start next Tuesday night.
