2017 Lacrosse Season Comes To A Close

Fayetteville, NC - The 2017 edition of the Hollins lacrosse team played her final regular season game of the year on Saturday afternoon. Hollins would travel to Methodist to face the Monarchs in their season finale. The visitors would get off to a good start against Methodist, but a string of unanswered goals would put the game out of reach as the Monarchs would complete the non-conference win, 27-6.

After the home team got the scoring started just 12 seconds into the matchup, Allie Helmbrecht would provide an answer for Hollins, tying the score at 1-1. The hosts from Fayetteville would net the next two scores before Helmbrecht cut the deficit to one. Over the next seven minutes of play, six consecutive Methodist goals would push their advantage to 9-2. Hope Shaw bested the Monarch keeper to stop the Methodist run but the momentum would quickly be regained by the home team and at the break, Hollins would trail 3-19. Methodist would enjoy a 25-7 shot advantage thanks in part to out dueling Hollins in the draw circle to the tune of 15-8. In the second half, Hollins would cut their hosts shots in half but in the end, the lead was too much to overcome. Hollins would fall in their regular season finale, 27-6, to the Monarchs.

Helmbrecht would add five more goals to bring her season total to 58 in just 10 games played. Shaw, the team's second leading scorer, would finish her first-year campaign with 12 goals and an assist. Keeper Delaney Waller recorded five saves, running her season total to 88 while she and Leemu Jackson would each pick up a pair of ground balls.

Kaelyn Holland led Methodist with eight goals and three assists. Tori Manahan would add five scores with a trio of teammates each scoring three times.

Hollins finished the season with a 1-3 record on the road.
