Wilson, NC - For the third time during the break, the Hollins lacrosse team put on their road uniforms when they faced Barton College on Friday night. Hollins looked to win for the second time in as many days while the DII Bulldogs took aim at their first win of the season. Barton would score the first two, and five of the first six, goals of the game to take control and go on to pick up the win, 21-11.
The Bulldogs would take a 5-1 lead before Hollins began to find their legs and cut into the advantage. Allie Helmbrecht would score her first two goals of the evening to cut the deficit in half, 6-3, midway through the first half. However, the Bulldogs would end the frame on a 7-3 run to take a 13-6 advantage into the break. Barton would score a pair of quick second half goals to take firm control of the game. Hollins netted four of the game's final six goals to make the final score, 21-11 in favor of Barton College.
After scoring a season high 10 goals yesterday, Helmbrecht added eight more scores to her season total of 45. First-year midfielder Hope Shaw scored twice to go with nine draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers. Leemu Jackson and Sydney Clark picked up three ground balls apiece and Delaney Waller registered 11 saves, her third double digit save effort of her first-year campaign.
Kelly Dolan scored seven times while adding two assists, six draw controls, and two ground balls. Kianna Jimenez added five scores and Aryanna Kahnestock four. Kia Morris made three stops in picking up the win in goal for the Bulldogs.
Hollins will return home and play their final home game of the season next Wednesday afternoon. Hollins will play host to Randolph College at 4:30pm
