Hollins Can't Keep Pace With Pride

Roanoke, VA - Sunday afternoon marked the mid-way point of the Hollins home lacrosse schedule. Greensboro College was the opponent for Hollins third consecutive home game to start the season. The Pride used a sizable shot advantage in the first half to build a halftime lead. During the final 30 minutes. Hollins began to earn more time in the Greensboro zone but it wasn't enough as The Pride went on to post a 19-1 victory.

Greensboro wasted little time in getting the scoring started when they netted their first goal of afternoon less than one minute after the opening draw. Two minutes later Christina SanGiacomo recorded the first of her four scores of the game to push the lead to 2-0. The Pride out-shot their hosts 21-3 in a first half that saw Greensboro race out to a 12-0 lead at the break. The second half was more of the same, as 11 different Greensboro attackers scored during the matchup. Hollins would finally get on the board after converting a free position shot to make the final score 19-1.

Leading scorer Allie Helmbrecht netted the lone goal of the afternoon, giving the sophomore 13 for the season. Allie Tambornini handled center circle duties for Hollins, recording four draw controls to go with a pair of ground balls and one caused turnover. Sydney Clark led the Hollins defense, causing a pair of Pride miscues and picking up a ground ball. In net, Delaney Waller added nine more saves to her season total. The first-year netminder now has 30 stops on the season and her 10 save per game average would have Waller ranked in the top 50 in the national statistical rankings.

SanGiacomo led the Pride with four goals and six ground balls. Natalie Ritchey posted a complete game with two goals, six assists, four ground balls, and a game high seven draw controls. Kara Whitson tallied three goals, an assist, and 12 ground balls while causing three of Hollins 20 turnovers.

Hollins will be back in action this week with back to back games on Wednesday and Thursday. McDaniel comes to Roanoke on Wednesday afternoon for a 4:00pm start.
