Winchester, VA - For the last time this season, the Hollins lacrosse team boarded the bus and hit the road. Shenandoah was the opponent as Hollins wrapped up road conference play for the 2016 season. The matchup with the Hornets would provide another opportunity for Hollins to pick up her first Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory of the season.
The home team got the scoring started when Shenandoah was awarded a free position shot just three minutes into the game. Abby Zorrilla found the back of the net to get the Hornets on the board. For the bulk of the first 30 minutes, Shenandoah dominated play in the Hollins zone, out-shooting their guests 23-6. Hollins was help scoreless during the first half, leading the Hornets to enjoy a 14-0 advantage at the break. The first five minutes of the second frame was a scoreless affair until Allie Helmbrecht got the visitors on the score board. Hollins couldn't build on the Helmbrecht tally as Shenadoah went on a 7-1 to finish the game en route to a 21-2 ODAC win.
Helmbrecht added two more goals to her team leading total, giving the first-year 38 on the season. Rikki Martinez and Emalee Jimenez each added one shot and two ground balls with Jimenez causing a pair of Shenandoah turnovers. In goal, senior Emily Lowther recorded double-digit saves with 10 stops.
Miranda Rudacille paced the Hornets with five goals and three assists while Zorrilla scored three times. Annie McCorry beat the keeper twice to go with two assists, four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Brittany Bain and Rachel Levy split time in net, registering six saves.
Hollins will return to Roanoke where they will await a visit from ODAC power Washington and Lee University next Saturday afternoon. The game with the Generals marks the final scheduled game of the season.
