Ashland, VA - The Hollins lacrosse team took to the road on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Hollins traveled to Ashland to face the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon.
After opening the game with little action, the home team gained control by netting a pair of goals just 50 seconds apart. In a first half that saw the Yellow Jackets out-shoot their guests, 24-3, Randolph-Macon took a comfortable lead into the break. During the second half, Hollins earned a little more time in the Jackets zone, holding their hosts to half the shots that they enjoyed in half number one. Hollins scored twice on three second half shots to make the score 23-2 in the end.
First-year Allie Helmbrecht found the back of the Randolph-Macon net twice on her five shots. Helmbrecht has 29 goals on the season, good enough to be ranked fifth in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). Rikki Martinez secured four draws while Emily Lowther recorded six saves and two ground balls.
Four different Yellow Jackets scored three goals led by Saunders Riley and her three goals and two assists. Allie Walker stopped three shots en route to picking up the win.
