Harrisonburg, VA - After opening the fall season at Shenandoah last week, the Hollins golf team teed it up in the second of three fall tournaments. Five Hollins golfers took aim at the par 72, 5,805 yard layout at the Lakeview Golf Club in Harrisonburg. 54 golfers, representing eight schools, played in the two-day event that was hosted by Bridgewater College.
All five golfers fired season and personal bests in the first round. After the first day of play, Hollins found themsevles just one shot behind Emory & Henry College in the team standings. Looking to duplicate their effort from the Green Turtle Invitational, when three golfers bested their first round score, Hollins teed off trying to pass the Wasps. However, Emory & Henry was able to hold off the green and gold as Hollins finished the event in eighth place, thier best finish of the young season.
Senior Michelle DuCom posted Hollins best round of the tournament one day one and found herself in 35th place heading into the final. DuCom was unable to move up the leaderboard but was low golfer for Hollins. Pranika Kar finished behind her teammate as the duo swapped positions from one week ago. A pair of players did post improvement on day two, Ya Gao shaved 10 strokes off her career best while first-year Elizabeth Kaiser improved her score for the third consecutive round. Hollins fifth golfer, Kate Kirkpatrick, rounded out the Hollins lineup playing her first collegiate tournament.
The schedule has one more stop for Hollins this fall. They will travel to Lexington to play in the General's Invitational, hosted by Washington and Lee. The tournament will be contested at the Lexington Country Club on October 2nd and 3rd.
