Front Royal, VA - The Hollins University golf team traveled to Winchester to compete in their first tournament of the fall. Four golfers took aim at the 5,862 yard, par 72 layout at the Shenandoah Valley Golf Club. Hollins was one of 11 schools that saw 46 golfers tee off in the Green Turtle Invitational.
After the opening round, Hollins found themselves sitting in eight place heading into Sunday's finale. Pranika Kar posted the best round for the green and gold on Saturday and found herself just four strokes behind Chandler Thomas of Emory & Henry. Kar improved by nine strokes on day two, moving up two spots on the leader board. Senior Michelle DuCom was Hollins biggest mover of the day. DuCom bested her Saturday effort by 14 strokes and for her efforts, moved up to finish right behind Kar. On a day where Hollins showed steady improvement, Ya Gao broke her previous collegiate best mark by 10 strokes. First-year Elizabeth Kaiser rounded out the Hollins foursome.
Hollins will look to continue to lower their scores when they compete at the Bridgewater Invitational next week. The two-day event will be held at the Lakeview Golf Club in Harrisonburg.
