Nellysford, VA - Day two of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Golf Championships saw each of Hollins three golfers improve their position heading into Tuesday's third, and final, round. Due to the impending rain and cold, the second round got started with six holes being played on Sunday evening. The remainder of the middle round was finished on a cold and rainy Monday afternoon.
Shelby Estes started the second round in a tie for fourth place. Estes set the tone for her second round with a birdie on her first hole. Despite having to take a 16 hour break in the middle of her round, the senior fired a nine over par 81, the second best score of the 30 competitors. Her four shot improvement has Estes in solo possession of third place heading into the finale.
After an opening round 89 had her in a tie for 12th, Shannon Ciccarello essentially duplicated her round and moved up three spots on the leaderboard. Ciccarello is currently positioned in ninth place, just five shots out of seventh and giving Hollins a pair of golfers in the top 10.
Hollins third player, Amber Markovitz, posted the best improvement of the group when she posted a 105, six shots clear of her opening round. For her efforts, Markovitz moved up in the standings and built a six shot advantage over her nearest pursuer.
Tomorrow, weather permitting, will be the final round of the 2017 ODAC Championships. The 30 player field is scheduled to tee off at 10:00am at the Stoney Creek Golf Course at The Wintergreen Resort.
