Lexington, VA - Monday marked the opening round of the Washington and Lee General's Invitational. The two day event is being held at the Lexington Golf and Country Club and features a field of 70 golfers, representing 14 different college and universities.
Wittenburg University sits atop the standings after the first round of play. The Tigers lead the host's from W&L by four strokes with Methodist University sitting in third, a mere seven strokes out of the lead. Hollins finds themselves in 12th place heading into tomorrow's second and final round.
Shelby Estes battled tough greens and a course that has seen its' share of moisture over the past few days to lead Hollins with an opening round 83. Estes is currently in 20th place and a solid round tomorrow would give the senior a chance to move into the top 10. Shannon Ciccarello posted the second best score for Hollins with Amber Markovitz coming in 10 strokes behind. Markovitz missed posting her best round of the season by just one shot. Michelle DuCom and Melissa Noles rounded out the scoring for the green and gold.
Tomorrow's round is scheduled to start at 9:00am.
