Lexington, VA - The 2018 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Women's Basketball Tournament got started with a quartet of first round games on Monday night. Hollins made the trip north to Lexington to face Washington and Lee in the #5 vs. #12 matchup.
The game marked the second time this season that Hollins had faced the Generals on their home floor. Back on January 20th, Washington and Lee used a big first quarter to build a lead that Hollins would chip away at before falling 58-69. With the score tied, 4-4, an 8-0 General's run would break the game open and stake the home team to a 21-10 first quarter advantage. Hollins would out-shoot her hosts in the second quarter but the three point line would prove to be the difference as the Generals went 3-8 from long range to take a 17 point edge into the break, 38-21. The Green and Gold would cut the deficit to 13 by the mid-way point of the frame but could get no closer as the 10:00 was played to a draw and ended with the home team holding a 57-40 advantage. A 10-0 outburst to start the final period would allow W&L to pull away and pick up the opening round win by the score of 75-44.
LaChrisha Hill came off the Hollins bench to lead the road team with 16 points and six rebounds. Keyazia Taylor would net 10 points with nine boards and Deana Campbell added eight points and three assists.
All-ODAC performer Emily Perszyk scored a game high 25 points. Fellow senior Emma Redding would add 15 while Andy Smithey made it three Generals in double figures with 10.
Hollins wraps up a season that ended with a 1-3 mark over the final week, highlighted by a big home win over cross-town rival Roanoke College. Washington and Lee will play at the Salem Civic Center on Thursday with a 3:00pm tip against the #4 seeded Guilford Quakers.
