Emory, VA - The Hollins basketball team kicked off 2018 with a home win on Tuesday night and looked to make it three in a row when they made the trip south to Emory & Henry. The Wasps hosted Hollins in her first Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game of the new year.

Hollins would net the first hoop of the night and after Sydney Strange hit a three pointer, the visitors would lead, 5-3, after the first minute of play. After hitting their first two shots, Hollins would be held scoreless, 0-9 from the field, the rest of the opening period and trailed by 15 heading into the second quarter. The Green and Gold would begin to find some offensive flow and got as close as they would the rest of the night at the 6:29 mark. Despite tripling their first quarter output, Hollins would see the Wasps increase their advantage heading into the halftime break. The two ODAC foes would play even for the first five minutes of the second half before the home team once again took control and closed the period on a 10-4 run. The Emory & Henry defense would hold Hollins to just 31% shooting while turning over their guests 31 times en route to picking up the conference win, 81-34.

Chesslyn Owens came off the bench to led Hollins with 12 points on 5-10 shooting. Tayler Broyles added seven points and two assists while LaChrisha Hill had four points and a team high six rebounds.

Taylor Blevins, 16 points, led a balanced Emory & Henry attack that saw all 12 players score. Blevins also had nine rebounds with Myesha Logan and Laken Blackburn each scoring 10. Kylea Cooper handed out nine of the Wasps 22 assists.

Hollins will be back at home for two consecutive ODAC games. The first will be on Saturday at 2:00pm when Shenandoah comes to Roanoke for a rematch that saw the Hornets hit a buzzer beater to knock off Hollins last season.
