Roanoke, VA - For the final time this regular season, the Hollins basketball team took on Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) competition. Randolph-Macon was the final opponent of the regular season for a Hollins team that looked to gain some momentum in advance of the 2017 ODAC Women's Basketball Tournament. The home team raced out to an early five point advantage but the Yellow Jackets scored 13 straight to seize control of the matchup. Hollins would mount several rallies throughout the afternoon but each time Macon would turn away their hosts and closed out the regular season with a 77-63 win.
Prior to the opening tip, Hollins took a moment to honor her pair of seniors playing in their final home game. Porsha Waddey and Jewellanna Parfitt scored the first two baskets for a Hollins team that would start the game five of five in building an 11-6 advantage. The visitors from Ashland would score 13 straight to take their first lead of the afternoon, 18-11. Randolph-Macon would begin to pull away as their staring post duo of Amber Lee and Kelly Williams would connect on all seven of their first quarter attempts. The second period started with another Williams score from point blank range and the lead was into double-digits for the first time. However, Hollins would play the Jackets even throughout the second frame and trailed by just nine at the break, 40-31. The third quarter would see the home team begin to cut into the deficit and after consecutive three points plays by LaChrisha Hill and Deana Campbell, Hollins would be within four, 46-42. Randolph-Macon would close the quarter on a 13-7 run to push the lead back up to 10. The final 10:00 would again see Hollins get close but the deficit was too much to overcome as the Yellow Jackets used a 46-26 rebounding edge and 30 points from Williams to pull away late, 77-63.
Parfitt would close out her senior day game with 21 points, four assists, and five steals. Waddey would add three points, three rebounds, and three assists. Hill would just miss matching her season high (19 points vs. Bridgewater) with 18 points and seven boards while Campbell would have nine points, four assists, and a pair of steals.
Williams registered a double-double with 30 points and 12 rebounds. Lee just missed her own double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds and Michal Ross would come off the bench with 12 points in just 16 minutes of play.
As today marked the end of the ODAC regular season, the field has been set for the 2017 conference tournament.
