Roanoke, VA - The Emory & Henry Wasps made the trip north on Interstate 81 to play Hollins on Wednesday night. Hollins came into the matchup with their Old Dominion Athletic Conference rival looking to get back in the win column after falling in her previous two conference games. The Wasps used a deep bench to press Hollins into 29 turnovers, leading to 32 points. Hollins was within striking distance going into the fourth quarter but a 16-0 E&H run ended any hopes of an upset.
Hollins got the night off to a quick start and after a second hoop by Sally Sroge, enjoyed a 6-2 advantage. A three pointer and made jumper allowed Emory & Henry to take their first lead but Hollins quickly answered to tie the game, 7-7. The Wasps would build their advantage to six, but five straight for the home team made it a one point game after the first quarter. The full court pressure and deep bench of the road team began to take it's toll, holding the home squad to just six points over the next 10 minutes of action. Trailing by nine at the break, Hollins started to chip away at the deficit and after a pair of Jewellanna Parfitt triples, the Wasp lead was down to seven, 36-29. Emory would regain control of the game, scoring six straight to end the period. The turnovers started to mount as The Wasps would start to run away thanks to 16 more points bring the run to 22-0. 11 of the 14 Emory & Henry players scored en route to a 66-38 victory.
Parfitt finished with 15 points, eight rebounds, two assists and four steals. LaChrisha Hill just missed another double-double with 12 points and nine boards with Sroge adding seven and Porsha Waddey netting four. Nicolette Valencia failed to score but handed out six assists to go with three steals.
Taylor Blevins paced the visitors with 12 points and five rebounds while 10 different players scored between two and nine. Megan Jacoby had nine assists and three steals with Jada Penn recording six of the team's 18 takeaways.
Hollins will travel to Virginia Beach on Saturday for a rematch with Virginia Wesleyan.
