Roanoke, VA - The Hollins basketball team looked to get back in the win column when they hosted Eastern Mennonite University on Wednesday night. Hollins came into the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) matchup looking for their first conference win of the season. The game was tight late with the Royals enjoying two point lead in the game's final minutes. However, Eastern Mennonite used an 11-3 run to close out the game, 60-50.
Hollins started the game on fire hitting on four of her first seven shots en route to a 9-2 advantage. The Royals closed the gap and retook the lead before Porsha Waddey hit a jumper with eight ticks on the clock to give Hollins a 13-12 lead after the opening period. Despite the poor shooting, Hollins found themselves tied, 26-26, with 2:45 left in the first half. Eastern Mennonite used an 8-0 surge to close the half and take a seven point advantage into the break. The two ODAC rivals went back and forth in the third frame, playing the next 10 minutes to a 10-10 tie. Trailing by seven, Hollins began to cut into the deficit in the closing period. With just under four minutes to go, Jewellanna Parfitt hit a three pointer to make the score 49-47. Thanks to the inside game of Jonae Guest, the Royals closed out Hollins, led by a pair of old fashion three point plays by the EMU post player.
Sally Sroge scored all of her team high 13 points in the first half. Parfitt added 12 points, five steals, and three assists. LaChrisha Hill registered a double-double, 10 points and 15 rebounds, before picking up for fifth foul late in the contest.
