Big Fourth Quarter Carries Hollins

Allentown, PA - For the final time in 2016, the Hollins basketball team took the floor and looked to end the semester with a 2-0 road trip. After besting Central Penn College on Sunday, Hollins continued their trip to Pennsylvania when the faced Cedar Crest on Tuesday afternoon. Hollins took a slim, one point, lead into the final period but after doubling up the Falcons in the final 10 minutes, Hollins enjoyed 63-54 victory.

The Falcons raced out to a five point lead at the midway point of the first quarter and the home team continued to hold the advantage throughout the opening frame. Cedar Crest continued to turn back their guests in the second period. Hollins would cut the lead to a single possession but each time their hosts would answer and pushed their advantage to seven points. With 1:40 left in the half, Hollins took control of the action and after Sally Sroge connected on her second layup in a 30 second stretch, the Falcon lead had been cut to a single point, 34-33. Hollins didn't let the halftime break stop their rally and a Jewellanna Parfitt fastbreak basket got the second 20 minutes off to a good start. LaChrisha Hill grabbed an offensive board and banked it in to give Hollins a three point advantage. The home team tied the score later in the quarter, 37-37, but from that moment on, Hollins started to pull away. The Falcons would have one last run, closing the quarter on a 5-0 spurt to cut the visitors lead to one, 47-46. The final 10 minutes belonged to Hollins as they built a 13 point lead into the final minute. A three pointer by Cedar Crest would make the final score 63-54.

Parfitt once again led the Hollins attack with 19 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Hill continued her stellar play with another double-double, 10 points and 15 boards. Nicolette Valencia scored 11 points to go with four rebounds and a pair of steals while Sroge added 10. Porsha Waddey posted nine points, six rebounds, three steals, and three blocked shots.

Tenille Stewart recorded a game high 22 points while Geminii Cabrera added 15 and Sylera Weller finished with 10.

Hollins will open 2017 on January 3rd when they play host to William Peace.
