Event: Hollins at Randolph College Spring IHSA (Lynchburg, VA)

The lead: After finishing up the fall portion of their Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) events back in early November, the Hollins riders returned to action on Sunday with a trip to Randolph. Hollins would compete with seven other schools in their 2019 IHSA debut.

The result:

  • Randolph (42) - Champion
  • Bridgewater (29) - Reserve Champion
  • Hollins/UVa (27)
  • Washington and Lee (19)
  • JMU/Lynchburg (17)
  • Roanoke (11)

How it happened: Hollins would see a pair of riders secure blue ribbons during the show. In addition to the first place efforts, the team would post a pair of runner-up and four, third place finishes. The host WildCats would run away with Champion honors while Bridgewater would finish two points clear of Hollins and the University of Virginia in second place.

Hollins notes:

  • Teammates Mara Smith and Logan Landfried would each claim first place ribbons. Smith won Novice Equitation on the Flat while Landfried earned a spot in the IHSA Regional Show with her win in Novice Equitation over Fences
  • Zoe Thornhill finished runner-up (Walk-Trot Hunter Seat Equitation) in her first IHSA show and Caitlyn Sheffer earned a second place ribbon in Open Equitation over Fences
  • A trio Hollins riders claimed third place points

What's next: The team will pack up the vans and head to the Shenandoah Valley on Saturday for a show co-hosted by James Madison and Bridgewater.
