Hollins Reserve Champion at Lynchburg

Event: Riding - Holllins at University of Lynchburg IHSA (Lynchburg, VA)

The lead: The Hollins riding team traveled back to the Hill City on Saturday when they competed for the fourth, and final, Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) event of the fall. After being named Reserve Champion at Randolph College last week, the riders looked for a repeat performance when they took on seven other schools at the event hosted by the University of Lynchburg.

The result:

  • UVa (35) - Champion
  • Hollins/JMU (34) - Reserve Champion
  • Bridgewater/Randolph/Washington and Lee (32)
  • Univ. of Lynchburg (22)
  • Roanoke (4)

How it happened: Hollins finished in a second place tie with James Madison, finishing just a single point behind the Champion riders from University of Virginia. Individually Hollins would earn one first place ribbon to go with five runner-up, and a pair of third place finishes.

Hollins notes:

  • Emily Collins earned Hollins lone first place ribbon when she finished atop the field in Intermediate Hunter Seat Equitation over Fences
  • Four different riders earned runner-up ribbons
    • Kaitlyn Okin secured a pair of second place finishes in the Novice Hunter Seat Equitation (on the Flat and over Fences)
    • Taylor Campbell also in Novice Hunter Seat on the Flat
    • Caitlyn Sheffer in Open Hunter Seat Equitation on the Flat
    • Alex Sanchez Wlak-Trot Hunter Seat Equitation

What's next: The show was the final of the fall and Hollins will start the spring IHSA season with a trip to Randolph College on February 10th.
