Event: Riding - Hollins at Bridgewater/James Madison (Harrisonburg, VA)

The lead: The Hollins riding team competed for the second time this fall in an Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) event on Saturday. After opening the season at UVa, Hollins traveled to the Shenandoah Valley for an event co-hosted by Bridgewater and James Madison.

The results:

  1. Washington and Lee - 32 (Champion)
  2. Randolph - 29 (Reserve Champion)
  3. Hollins - 25
  4. JMU - 18
  5. UVa - 18
  6. Lynchburg - 15
  7. Bridgewater - 14
  8. Roanoke - 10 

How it happened: The Hollins riders had their best show of the fall. Individually, the Green and Gold earned five top three finishes. Hollins would bring home one first place, a pair of second place, and a trio of third place ribbons. Hollins claimed a third place final finish, just four points behind the Reserve Champions from Randolph College.

Hollins notes: 

  • Hollins lone first place finish was registered by Caitlyn Sheffer when she finished atop the field in Open Hunter Seat Equitation over Fences
  • A runner-up ribbon went to Alex Sanchez in Walk-Trot Hunter Seat Equitation
  • Katie Grandelli earned a 2nd place ribbon in Intermediate Hunter Seat Equitation over Fences and a 3rd in Intermediate Hunter Seat Equitation on the Flat
  • Two other Hollins riders recorded third place finishes
    • Madeleine Lohr - Open Hunter Seat Equitation
    • Taylor Campbell - Advanced Walk-Trot Canter Hunter Seat Equitation (qualified for IHSA Regionals) 

What's next: Next Saturday, November 3rd, Hollins will travel to Lynchburg to compete at the Randolph College IHSA fall event.
