Lynchburg, VA - On Saturday, the Hollins equestrian team traveled to the Hill City to compete in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) event that was co-hosted by Lynchburg and Sweet Briar. For the second consecutive show, Hollins was named Reserve Champion and the team boasted the High Point Rider of the day.
In the final standings of the eight schools, Hollins finished three points behind the co-champions from Randolph and UVa and were named Reserve Champion. Randi Byrd continued her stellar season and after winning a three way ride off, was named High Point Rider. In eight IHSA events this season, Byrd has been named High Point Rider four times while earning Reserve High Point Rider status once. The senior won a pair of ribbons on the afternoon when she finished first in Open Flat and Runner-up in Open Fences. Her win in Open Flat qualified Byrd for the regional show later this spring. Taylor Campbell added a blue ribbon in Advanced Walk Trot Canter with Alex Bailey finishing second to give Hollins a pair of ribbons in the discipline. A trio of other Hollins riders secured top three finishes. Madi Szurley earned third place points in Intermediate Flat while finishing fourth in Intermediate Fences. In Novice Fences, Hollins saw a pair of riders finish with third place points when Logan Landfried and Emily Collins each earned a ribbon.
The group will have to wait for a month before they resume their winning ways when they travel to Charlottesville for the University of Virginia IHSA event on March 24th.
