Bridgewater, VA - On Saturday, the Hollins equestrian team traveled to Bridgewater to compete in their seventh Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) event of the year. For the third time this season, Hollins was crowned Reserve Champion after the team finished with 33 points, just two points back of Randolph College for the top spot.
A pair of Hollins riders brought home a total of three first place ribbons during the show. Madi Szurley finished first in Intermediate Flat and then came back to win Intermediate Fences. For her efforts, Szurley was awarded High Point Rider after a five way tie-breaker. Randi Byrd also secured a Blue Ribbon when she finished ahead of the field in Open Equitation on the Flat. Leslie Giorgetti secured a berth in the IHSA Regional event with the points she claimed by finishing second in Advanced Walk Trot Canter. Katie Grandelli also earned a pair of ribbons when she finished third in both the Novice Equitation on the Flat and Novice Equitation over Fences.
Hollins will return to IHSA action next weekend when they travel to Lynchburg to show in an event co-hosted by Lynchburg and Sweet Briar.
