Lynchburg, VA - The Hollins equestrian team competed in Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) action for the final time this semester. The fall season ending show was held in the Hill City and co-hosted by Lynchburg College and Sweet Briar. Hollins finished in a tie for third, with the host Hornets, in the eight team field.
The duo of Madi Szurley and Logan Landfried each brought home first place ribbons during the event. Szurley finished first in Intermediate over Fences while Landfried won her ribbon in Novice over Fences. Mara Smith qualified for the IHSA Regional Show with a third place effort in Advanced Walk Trot Canter. Madeleine Lohr continued her run of ribbons with a runner-up finish in Open on the Flat and Taylor Campbell added a second place finish in Beginning Walk Trot Canter. Hollins would add another pair of top three awards when Randi Byrd earned a runner-up in Open on the Flat while claiming a third place finish in Intermediate over Fences. The final top three for Hollins, eight in total, came with a third place effort by Allison Sherwood in Open over Fences.
Hollins will continue to show against IHSA competition in the spring. The first scheduled event is going to be a trip to Randolph College on February 10th.
