Weyers Cave, VA - The Hollins riders traveled to the Harrisonburg area on Saturday to compete at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) event. The show was co-hosted by Bridgewater and James Madison and featured eight teams. The University of Virginia was named Champion with Randolph College coming in Reserve Champion.
The event marked the first IHSA event this fall that Hollins did not finish in the top two with their sixth place effort over the weekend. Randi Byrd picked up another first place ribbon when she finished atop the field in Open Flat as well as a third place finish in Open Fences. Taylor Campbell added a first place finish in Beginning Walk Trot Canter, giving Hollins a pair of individual wins. Madeleine Lohr was one of a trio of riders that brought home second place points. Lohr earned her runner-up ribbon in Open Fences with Madi Szurley finishing second in Intermediate Flat and Allison Sherwood in Novice Flat. In addition to Byrd's top three, Mara Smith registered a third in Advanced Walk Trot Canter and Heavon Allen rounded out Hollins top three finishes in Intermediate Flat. For her efforts, Allen punched her ticket to the Regional show in the Intermediate Flat discipline.
Hollins has one more scheduled IHSA event this fall when they travel to Sweet Briar on November 11th.
