Bridgewater, VA - The Hollins equestrian team competed at the Bridgewater College Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) event on Saturday afternoon. The team used four different first place finishes and several ribbons to tie the University of Virginia for Reserve Champion honors. Bridgewater College was named Champion after finishing three points clear of Hollins and UVa.
Hollins riders claimed four blue ribbons during the show. In Intermediate Over Fences, Madi Hurley claimed first place points and with her finish, qualified for the Regional show in the Spring of 2017. In the same classification Allison Sherwood finished fifth. Sherwood also earned fourth place points in Novice Flat. Hollins earned two more first place finishes over fences with Katelyn Mosmiller, Novice Over Fences, and Heavon Allen, Open Over Fences, winning their events and helping Hollins move up the standings.
One of the biggest wins during the show came in Advanced Walk Trot Canter. Dade Hundertmark helped secure the Reserve Champion honors for the team when she picked up a blue ribbon. Mara Smith finished runner-up to Hundertmark, earning a second place ribbon. Hollins also added second place points by Maddy Lohr in Open Flat when Lohr beat out teammate Randi Byrd, who claimed third.
Hollins will travel to Lynchburg next weekend to compete in the Randolph College Fall Festival on Saturday and Sunday.
