Thursday morning marked the start of the 2017 Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) National Championships. The The four-day event was held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY. Hollins was represented by Elizabeth (Randi) Byrd.
The Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) held it's Zone 4 Championships on Saturday. St. Andrews University in Laurinburg, NC hosted the event. The top two teams and the top two individual riders in each discipline would qualify for the National IHSA event in early May.
The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) held her annual Championship show on Wednesday. The 2017 Championships were decided at the Kirby Riding Ring on the campus of Hollins University and included four riders from each of the six conference schools. Hollins finished atop the final standings for the 21st time.
The Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) regional show was held in Charlottesville. The event was hosted by the University of Virginia and it consisted of teams and individuals that had earned their way there by qualifying during the IHSA schedule.
Over the weekend, the Hollins equestrian team competed at the 2017 Hollins Spring Welcome Show. Several riders brought home ribbons for their efforts during the, four day, event that was held at the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington, VA.
The Hollins equestrian team traveled to Charlottesville to compete in the University of Virginia Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) event. It marked the final, regular season, IHSA event of the season as the teams prepare for the regional event in mid-March. Hollins placed eighth in a field of nine during the show.
When Hollins traveled to Bridgewater to compete at the Eagle's spring Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) event on Saturday, the team would compete against nine other regional schools. For the event, Hollins finished the afternoon with 27 points, ending the show in sixth place.
Sunday marked the annual spring IHSA event hosted by Hollins University. Fresh off a Reserve Champion designation at Randolph on Saturday, Hollins hosted nine other schools. Randolph College made it two wins in a row with Hollins finishing fifth, as just two points separated four different teams.
The Hollins equestrian team traveled to Lynchburg to compete at the Randolph College IHSA spring event. In the nine team field, Hollins finished second, behind only the host WildCats in being named Reserve Champion for the event.
The 2016 fall equestrian season came to a close with the Sweet Briar Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) event on Saturday afternoon. Hollins and nine of her regional rivals competed at the show with Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) foe Bridgewater College being named Champion. Lynchburg College was named Reserve Champion while Hollins finished in a fourth place tie with Washington and Lee.
The Southwest Virginia Hunter Jumper Association (SWVHJA) annual show took place over the weekend. The show, starting on Friday afternoon and running through Sunday, was held at the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington.
The Hollins equestrian team competed at the Bridgewater College Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) event on Saturday afternoon. The team used four different first place finishes and several ribbons to tie the University of Virginia for Reserve Champion honors. Bridgewater College was named Champion after finishing three points clear of Hollins and UVa.
