Hollins Hosts Welcome Show

Lexington, VA - The Hollins University equestrian team hosted their 2016 Hollins Welcome Show over the weekend.  The multi-day event was held at the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington.  The event featured over a dozen different classifications as well as Best Alumnae Rider and Collegiate Cup Team Exhibition. 

Abigail Strohmeyer finished third in Low Hunter Over Fences while riding Primm's Cup.  The Schooling Hunter class saw Sarah Horowitz earned a runner up finish aboard Arnico.  Horowitz added another ribbon by coming in 3rd in the VHSA/EMO Medal category.  Pre Child/Adult Hunter saw another pair of Hollins riders earn top three ribbons.  Kaylyn Sawyer rode James River to a 1st and 3rd Over Fences while Nicole Sabovik came home 3rd Under Saddle. 

Megan Gilbert capped off a fantastic weekend when she rode Whiskey Tango to a blue ribbon in SWVH/JA Adult Equitation on the Flat.  Gilbert had earlier earned a 2nd place finish in Special Adult Hunter.  Child/Adult Equitation over Fences saw Sara Baygents finish 2nd while teammate Jennifer Chornlesky earned a 3rd place ribbon. 

Alison Thayerwas named Best Alumnae Rider.  The trio of Baygents, Madeleine Lohr, and Madeline Hurley rode as Team Gold in the Collegiate Cup Challenge Exhibition and finished 3rd in the field.

Hollins will wrap up regular season shows when they host their Spring Show over the weekend of April 2nd and 3rd.
