Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Director of Athletics Myra Sims has announced that volleyball coach, Katherine Heath Lawson has been named Senior Woman Administrator (SWA).
Heath-Lawson came to Hollins in 2009. For her first six years, the Roanoke native worked in admissions. In January of 2015, Heath-Lawson moved to the athletic department when the former Bridgewater standout was named to lead the volleyball program. In just her fourth season at the helm, the volleyball team experienced one of their best seasons in program history and featured a roster of 18 players.
"I am excited to take on the role of Senior Woman Administrator." Heath-Lawson on the appointment, "I am looking forward to facing new opportunities and responsibilities within the athletic department and working with the staff here at Hollins to advance our growing athletic programs."
The NCAA defines the role of the SWA as the highest ranking female, other then the Director of Athletics, within the department. Heath-Lawson will continue in her role as the recruiting coordinator/admissions liaison, as well as assist Sims in planning professional development opportunities for coaches, and will take on other projects and duties as needed.
After making the announcement to the department, Sims commented her selection. "I am excited for Katherine to assume a more prominent administrative role within the athletics program. She has earned this position because of her good work in managing the administrative aspects of her coaching position, building the volleyball program over the past four years and I am confident that this will be a huge benefit to the Hollins athletics program."
