Six Hollins Athletes Named VaSID Academic All State

Ashland, VA - The 2016-17 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Academic All-State team was announced and 217 student-athletes from 37 colleges and universities across the state were recognized.

To be eligible a student-athlete must have at least a 3.25 cumulative grade point average, and be a sophomore or higher.

VaSID is comprised of sports information or athletics communications professionals from intercollegiate institutions throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. Membership is open to any individual affiliated with one of the state's institutions at the NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III, NAIA, USCAA, NJCAA, community college and independent levels, provided that individual's area of responsibility lies within the realm of sports information.

Six Hollins student-athletes, representing seven of Hollins eight NCAA sports, were honored.

Shannon Ciccarello (Golf), senior from Stafford, Va., 3.97 gpa., double major Mathematics and Classical Studies.

Dani Raymond (Swimming), junior from Fredericksburg, Va., 3.87 gpa., double major English and Communication Stidies.

Antonia Perez-Bravo (Cross Country), senior from West Palm Beach, Fla., 3.77 gpa., majoring in Spanish.

Amelia Verkerk (Tennis), junior from Chapel Hill, N.C., 3.75 gpa., majoring is Classical Studies.

Jewellanna Parfitt (Basketball), senior from Roanoke, Va., 3.42 gpa., majoring in Business.

Rachel Hertzler (Volleyball and Lacrosse), senior from Toano, Va., 3.38 gpa., majoring in Psychology.
